Photo of the Week: Indian Paintbrush

I love Indian Paintbrush when it’s in the deep luxury of its color. Unique, recognizable, sumptuous in its mere presence, this plant scatters itself across the dry states. Named after 18th century Spanish professor of botany Domingo Castillejo (the plant’s genus name is Castilleja), Indian Paintbrush always splashes the sere landscape with a spot of welcome color beginning in late spring and extending through summer.
